Title: sharpening gouges
Post by: PapaDoc on February 10, 2004, 05:15:05 PM
Are there any provision in the Tormek system for gouges that have a large diameter?
Also any tips on the tedious work of sharpening a skew chisel.
Thanks. Glad for the site. I watched Nick Cook's copy of the DVD. Very helpful. Wish you had expanded the demos.

What do you call a large diameter?  The SVS-50 can sharpen a gouge of almost 2 inches.

As for skews, though the book suggests using the horizontal mount, I find it much quicker to use the vertical.  Keep your stone clean (using the grader frequently) and once the skew has both the skew angle and bevel angle that you prefer, carefully align the tool to the stone when regrinding.
