I found this fascinating. Many years ago, I purchased a second set of Marples Blue Chip chisels. These were "firmer chisels", meaning that the sides were not beveled. The design is more suited for heavy work as opposed to dovetails. My intention was to sharpen them with a 75° bevel. This configuration is called a planemaker's chisel, and was used to smooth out the bed under the blade with wooden chisels.
It is good to occasionallythink outside the standard 25° bevel angle box.
