Title: grinding with the Tormek
Post by: KGK on August 05, 2006, 04:30:26 PM
I'm presently undecided about purchasing a Tormek.  I intend to do alot of tool grinding shortly the tool has a hooked blade like a karambit I'm not sure whether to use a cheap belt sander to quickly grind a rudimentary bevel and then use the Tormek to finish off the bevel or whether to purchase a dedicated knife making belt sander, I think the Tormek is a superb machine I'm just not sure whether it can be used only for sharpening or also for minor grinding.
Your experiences would be appreciated

Many Thanks

Minor grinding is no problem.

If you have to take wide plane blade from 30 degrees to 25 degrees it can take a while if you wait for the whole bevel to be ground. The alternative (one I use) is to just grind the first quarter inch on the Tormek, then hone on a waterstone either freehand or using a jig.
