Title: Tormek Jig Doesn't fit the Mahoney Wood Beater
Post by: thechemist on May 26, 2015, 12:12:03 AM
I just bought the tormek wood turners jig.  I watched the video.  I went to my mount my mahoney wood beater into the jig and it won't fit.  Anybody got any solutions?  It won't slide into the gouge holder.

I'm not familiar with the Mahoney...is it a deep fluted bowl gouge?  If so what is the diameter of the steel?  Also are you referring to the SVD-185 when you talk of the "turning jig"?

It has too large a diameter to fit under the brass insert, even with the plastic piece removed.  Is is possible to get just the brass insert so that I can modify it?  Has anyone else done this?  The flute is very large as well, it is a 5/8 bowl gouge, but the diameter is 3/4.

Check with sharptoolsusa.com. Tormek tab, parts and parts finder. The part lists for $29.50.

Be careful you do not file away too much.

Actually the brass insert is only $10, what a deal!
