Title: mortise chisels - how?
Post by: Greg_R on February 07, 2006, 11:57:31 PM
I have some 'real' mortise chisels that are taller than they are wide.  They look very similar to these (http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=2&p=49988&cat=1,41504,41533&ap=1).  How should I go about sharpening them on the Tormek?  It seems to me that the face of the edge would develop a large cup after grinding (may not be good for mortise-type cuts).  Thoughts or suggestions?

The curve introduced by the TORMEK stone is not enough to cause you a problem, even on mortise chisels.  That said, you can use the SVD-110 and lay the chisel on its side to grind a flat bevel.
