Title: Running a UK bought machine in the USA

I have a Tormek 2000 sharpener, bought in the UK, so the motor is rated at 230v 50Hz. I can buy a step up transformer easily enough but I have no idea what the different frequency US voltage will do to the motor.
Will it just run faster, or will it not work at all?

It will run about 20% faster than design, and the motor will run quite hot. Are you in the States permanently, or just for a while? If you'll be here permanently, I would recommend a new motor.
