Title: sharpening salon convex scissors
Post by: laclipperrepair on January 28, 2011, 04:31:30 AM

Wondering if I can use the Tormek with SJ-250 to sharpen convex scissors free hand.  Don't think that there is a scissor jig for convex scissors.

I think if we rock the blade enough to get a burr, it would be able to remove the burr with the leather wheel.  Leaving the blade too long will bevel the blade, and wrecking the convex angle.

This can start a burdensome debate in certain circles. I've done it successfully, but it isn't something I would recommend to a beginner or even an intermediate user.

I have been most successful by using the leather wheel only. Obviously, that won't be sufficient if the scissor is badly dull or damaged. I haven't tried the SJ stone, but this would be an application that could greatly benefit from its properties.
