Title: Sharpening Knives
Post by: PRM on September 03, 2010, 04:03:46 AM
I was sharpening  several knives tonight and it got to a point that it seemed to quit sharpening a edge, It wasn't raising a burr, does anyone have any suggestions? ( I sharpen with a Tormek 7 ) Thankyou for any advice. Phil

It may have been the steel on the knife where you could not raise a burr. Some steels make a very, very fine, almost undetectable burr.

That said, whenever the stone is not cutting to your satisfaction, clean the surface with the SP-650 Stone Grader.

I just press a little harder and that seems to clear the stone.  I very rarely need to use the stone grader unless I want real fine edge, and I do quite a lot of knives each week, but what Jeff say's is correct as high end Japanese knives hardly raise a burr.
