Title: Spokeshave
Post by: cif on July 01, 2010, 08:05:23 AM
I have just got my new T7 - superb machine - planes, chisels all superbly sharp , BUT how do I sharpen my spokeshave blades?
Can't find any references to it on the forum.

Thanks

Spokeshave blades are sharpened just like plane irons, however, it may be difficult to reference the edge in the jig. If your blade is short enough that it creates a problem, use a small try-square registered to the front edge of the jig to square the blade in the jig.

Thanks for the quick reply - the problem I have is that the blade appears to be too thin to be gripped by the jig - is this normal and if so how do I get over it?

I've not run into that problem before, but I can see how it might be an issue with the new shape on the SE-76 clamping pad. Do you have something you could slip in there with it as a shim?

Hi
I  used a second spokeshave blade as a shim and all is now fine and sharp.

Thanks
