Hand Tool Woodworking / Re: Cap Iron Plane Screwdriver

Yes it is much more controllable than a screwdriver.

I wish they had more free shipping events.

Perhaps Tormek could take this Idea & come up with a new jig.

Yes I have the same Tool Guide  but cant remember what size of clamp, I will look & try them out for things like you have.
I will need to get the Tool Rest SVD-110 then try out your invention.

Quit clever Ionut

Lower left? Keyboard code?

If you use the Quote option you will not see the smiley faces.

Have a look at the user help

I love the way you used the clamps from your Veritas Power Tool Guide  straight edge to hold the Small knife blade rest to the tool rest.

Ingenuity!

Nice job Ionut

Quick reply is the option found down to the lower left.
I believe you can still get the smileys but you need to know the key board code.

:) ;) :D ;D >:( :( :o 8) ??? ::) :P :-[ :-X :-\ :-* :'(

Dan,

Do you happen to know if this screwdriver might also fit the tightening screw on the Eclipse (and clones) side clamping honing jigs?

Ken

The inside ring diameter that sits over the screw head is
.658 or 21\32 or 16.70mm

The screw from my plane is
.630 or 16mm

By looking at your Eclipse (and clones) side clamping honing jigs it may work perfectly.
But you can check with the measurements to see.

It has a turned brass collar surrounding the tip to capture the head of a cap iron screw up to 21/32" in diameter, and a generous bubinga knob for a comfortable, secure grip

Hope this helps you.

Thanks Ken, I will do that. How do you get the little smiley faces into the text?
Steve

You will see all the little smiley faces if you use the REPLY option from the blue bar to the right but if you use the Quick-Reply option you will not see them.
Just click on the face you want & it will appear at the point your cursor is at.

This has become a very informative topic.

Has any one had experience with Hirsch Chisels?

I purchased a Hirsch Cranked Trimming Chisels & it seems to hold an edge very well.

The one problem I read online was that they are beautifully polished to a mirror finish but this also means that you need to do allot of lapping of the back due to rounding during the polishing.

But I love the cranked blade design to keep the handle clear of the work surface.

I was poking around in the archives and found this.  It seemed worth being read more often.

Hi Ken

You mentioned that you found this poking around the archives but I was expecting a link or something to what you referred to.
Did I miss something?

Hi Steve

For your question "what do you think is a good container for holding the wet stones while sharpening?"

Have a look at this from Lee Valley.

Yes the posts are getting off topic but I still look through them but for some one new they would have a hard time making sense of how we got here from there.

It is a good idea to get photo's of your work but like many people I don't always do it.
But at some time I would like to get a custom electric branding Iron to sign pieces that I have done.

Has any one used branding Iron to sign their work?

That is a good Idea Simple.
I am amazed at how much steel gets collected around the magnet.
