Hello,

thank you for your report. Can you give us more information to get a better overview?

Did you check angles also when you were using previous version of app and did you notice some difference between old and new results?

Which angle did you grind typically and what was overal range of angles which you grinded on last 40 knives?

Regards
jvh

Yes.
Exactly was 38 knives.
10 knives was sharpened at 17º  (butcher knives)
25 knives was sharpened at 15º (kitchen knives)
3 Knives at 20º (two folden knives and one knife. All for Hunting
All in DPS.

With the old app, I did not verified all knives, but sometimes I finded an error of +1º at maximum. I have not exact notes of the final angle of all of knives, but always was higher angle than target.
Sharpened with SG-250 (actually 227mm of diameter), DF-250 and DE-250

This is all the information that I can offer.

Hello everyone.
The following comment is not to solve the "problem" about the thread of discussion, but I think all points of view are interesting.

I have no advanced mathematical knowledge and it is impossible for me to offer a qualified point of view, but I have the other part of the equation: the practice.

I received the actualizated app of Wootz and I have used it in (about) 40 knives including the day of today.
This knives been between 0,4mm to 2,5mm thicknes behind the edge.
Absolutly all the knives finished in target angle. The comprobation of the angle was with Catra Laser Protractor.
I know the Catra have a tolerance, but the ressults have been clarifiers in my opinion.

Nothing more. I would like to have enough level in order to clarify this problem, but only can offer this.

Knife Sharpening / Re: Knife Blade recomedations pls
October 20, 2019, 10:24:23 AM
I have sharpen various folding knives with this blade form.
The procedure is the usual.
I protect the blade with adhesive tape an clamp it on SVM-45. Then adjust the USB  to obtain the angle and start to sharpening.

The SVM-45 jig adapt to the blade without problems. Really, all knives have that shape to a greater or lesser extent.
Reciently they brought me one Spyderco Military and I remember that have the same shape... perhaps more stylized. The SVM-45 worked perfectly.

Josu, another option.

As you live in Europe you could buy THK compound via the home_tool store on ebay. Here's the link https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/thkdiamondtools3.

Shipping is free from Hong Kong and to get started you could buy the 13 bottle bundle containing a wide range of grits, some of which you may not need, so I'd suggest you specify the bottles of each grit you want during checkout. Total cost £43.00. I've ordered from them previously and did not have to pay import duty or VAT (too low value I guess).

Thank you, Smurfs.

Actually I have two THK diamond compounds: 1micron (yellow paste) and 0,25micron (grey paste). I bought it directly in THK web. Normally, this ships are free of customs costs to Europe.
Actually use it with Tormek Leather Wheels (LA.220), but I´m in process to make a Paper Wheel System in order to accelerate the sharpening process.

In any case, I appreciate the help

The THK diamond paste is what we use on paper wheels, good enough and not expensive.

Thank you very much, Vadim.

The various high quality diamond compounds i use on dedicated Paper Wheels originate from this US company:

https://microstar2000.com/metallography/26/DIAPAT+Diamond+Paste

I have their 15, 6, 3, 1, and 1/4 micron compounds, both for use on ceramic & various high (vanadium) carbide volume steel knives.
Works quite well i can tell you.

The 1 micron diamond compound also gets used on the Tormek letehr wheel.

Thank you too, Kwakster. Interesting web. The problem for me is that shipping costs and customs taxes are higher than price of the product (I´m in Europe).

I always use my smart phone to calculate grinding and honing measures and find very interesting an update of the smart phone app.

General Tormek Questions / Re: preventing corrosion
October 14, 2019, 09:22:29 AM
My T-8 works in a very wet and saline ambient. As wet and saline that aluminum and copper oxidize in contact with the air.

Every month I disassemble the shaft and all its parts and apply white lithium grease. Is a cheap option, but ensures a long life of the different parts.
Before this, I use an oil based degreaser to clean all the rest of old grease.
Time estimated: 5min

I like the option commented by Twisted Trees... Perhaps I´ll try it. It would be interesting to know the price of this product.

General Tormek Questions / Re: US-430 Update
October 07, 2019, 04:18:30 PM
I´m in the group of those who the US-430 is a must have.
I use Tormek T-8 only for sharpen knives (and folding knives), cleavers and scissors (less and less due to Twice As Sharp machine).

Between my customers, are a lot of butchers which long knives (more than 20-30cm) and fishmongers with very long cleavers.
But the reality is that only would need the US-430 in a 30% of times. And probably, I have the the type of customers who use more long knives and long cleavers.
For me, this 30% is a big reason to purchase the new US-430 universal support.

I think that the US-105 as standard equipement is acorrect decission.

Good New.

I have printed edition, but is important to me to have one digital edition for a couple of reasons:

I can take it everywhere.
it's easy for me to translate the part that I don't understand well.

Purchased!!!

I´m not sure if this expression is so correct in english, but for me, this book is and absolute "bedside book" of grinders  :D :D

General Tormek Questions / Re: TT-50 (2019 version)
October 02, 2019, 06:10:51 PM
I have find in forum and can´t find any more about this...

Exactly, which is the problem with old TT-50 tool?  I have one an I have used it various times without apparent problem.

Amen, so be it!   ;D ;D

I understand. Only, I found it curious, that most of you work well with 130, 140mm. I thought I was the weird...
But no. My customers are the weirds...   :D

I have read Ken´s idea whith very much attention.

I have one Wootz´s setting knife blok for two reasons: make more quickly in the positioning of the knives and, (most important for me) make that the blade stay parallel to the grinding wheel.
At this point, I think is very interesting one Setting Knife Block with one fixed position in order to reduce calculations and, of course, time and possibility of errors.

I can see that most of the people use 139 or 140mm as standard block position. I have my own "Grinding Notebook" where I take note of each of sharpening. Viewing the notebook I´m in doubt about the convenience of the 140mm as standard block position.

Most knives require more than 140mm distance and I think that the adjustable part of the SVM-45 is to short to adjust this distances.
I other pages of my Grinding Notebook, appears distances of the smallest knives like a paring knives and some small folding knives, and those measures are around 120 or 125mm

Really I like this idea, but I have a lot of doubts in order to make a fixes block.

At this point, according to the Advanced ad, it's a preorder. I suggest you contact your local dealer. The Tormek accessory designation is US-430.
