Title: Bevel up planes
Post by: OttawaP on January 27, 2009, 02:50:29 AM
Is the Tormek hollow grind sutiable for bevel up planes ? I'm very fond of my Veritas BU jack and smoothing planes and I'm considing the T7.

It most certainly is.  The finish from the leather honing wheel will give you the kind of shavings you're looking for.

Thanks for the response. Will it be more prone to more frequent touch ups?? It would seem the edge would be more fragile than a microbeveled edge or does this all really matter in today's A2 steel??

The hollow cut from the Tormek is so slight that you will not notice any weakness in the edge.  That said, it is quite easy to create a micro-bevel if that's what you want.
