Wood Turning / Scrapers
April 26, 2006, 11:49:24 AM
Hi guys,

What procedure do you use for bowl scrapers?  I tried as the book indicated, but recently turned the UTS to the "front", with the stone turning away from the edge, hoping to raise a burr that way.

Do you utilize some type of burnishing device or use the tool straight off the Tormek?  Have had one fellow tell me he uses the Veritas burnisher with great results.

Thanks.

Wood Turning / Fix for mini and midi skews
December 27, 2005, 08:03:19 PM
Don?t know if this has been posted or not, but here goes:  Had a problem with my midi-skew, it?s only ?? wide, and the Tormek skew jig won?t close down that far.  Instead of doing something really involved and complicated (like I usually do!), I simply inserted a 5/32? Allen wrench, short leg toward the stone, between the Tormek clamp and the skew.  The flats on the wrench keep the skew in alignment, and the short leg allows you to hold everything in place while you tighten it up.  You can grind the short leg of the Allen wrench on the stone, so watch out.  If you want to avoid this, simply grind the long leg of the wrench shorter so you don?t hit it with the stone.  A bit harder to set up in the jig this way, but better than not sharpening that skew at all!!

Hope this helps.

Wood Turning / Which jig(s)?
December 11, 2005, 05:29:21 AM
Which jigs to use with which tools?

1/8" and 1/4" spindle gouges, 1/8" parting tool, 1/4" round nose scraper, and 1/4" skew chisel.  Also my 3/4" roughing gouge.

Do I need two different jigs?

Thanks.
