General Tormek Questions / varible speed motors?
February 25, 2006, 06:15:11 PM
Hello
Woodcraft makes a device that will make a router varible speed.Do you
think this would work on 1 x 30 cheapo belt sanders and small grinders?
Thanks,

February 24, 2006, 04:10:35 AM
Jeff,
Do you think Tormek will ever come out with a lower grit wheel for more agressive work,(60,80) in my case like chipper blades for tree surgeons?
Thanks,

General Tormek Questions / upgrade to trueing tool?
January 06, 2006, 08:27:57 PM
> Folks,
Here is my idea.Because I have a few medical problems I haven't been
able to do it.
Drill a hole through the arm that holds the diamond.Make a small
stop at the end near the tighting thumb screw.A hole will have to be
drilled to fit over the guide bar.Now on the hole you drilled in the
arm,tap and make a very fine thread.Get a bolt or thumb screw for that
thread about 4 in. long.Turn the thumb screw, hold pressure on the arm
and the bit should walk across the stone.Turn it the other way to take
it back.I want half the money when you put this on the market!

General Tormek Questions / Wood chipper blades Help
January 05, 2006, 02:34:22 AM
I have 4 double edged chipper blades to do for a tree surgeon. They are 1/2" thick which is no problem. I'm using the planer blade jig by removing 2 studs. The angle is to be 31 degrees. The factory grind is 7/8" inch long.I can't get it to go back that far,Am I doing something wrong or did the factory use a  very large wheel?Costomer states that the taper needs to be back that far.To me 31 degrees is 31 degrees.

General Tormek Questions / web page
October 26, 2005, 02:03:17 PM
Hello,
Anyone out there sharpening for profit? I was wondering if a web page would work? I was wondering if customers would pay the postage for the service. Also what software are you using to build site?  I started one with yahoo site builder 2.2.It looks great on the screen, but when put in a test browser it's a screwed up. yahoo will not comment or help correct the problem. Can't talk to a real person, just answers online that is nowhere near my problem.
Thanks,
Ed

General Tormek Questions / cut honing wheel
October 10, 2005, 01:37:57 AM
Well I finally did it. I must have been tired or my stupid pills
kicked in.I tried honing with the wheel spinning toward me which is a
no-no. I have a slice on the outside edge about 1/4" in and 1/2" down
(in a triangle shape). If it was in the middle I probably could just
fill it in with compound, but on the edge the compound won't stay.Any suguestions on repair?
Thanks,
Ed

General Tormek Questions / compound
August 24, 2005, 09:34:23 PM
I was just curious, after some time should you scrape off the old compound and add new? Or should you just keep on adding new every 5 or 6 projects?
Thanks,
Ed

General Tormek Questions / lopers are a pain!
August 14, 2005, 05:11:32 PM
I'm  a Newbee so maybe you know this. Take the nut off, bolt is treaded so don't try and beat out. Clean the sides up on rough grinding wheel. Use your scissors back plate, set at 60 or 50 or what ever.Do it free hand and you will get a nice even grind. Now use the side of the wheel to do the flat sides! Nice and sharp.

General Tormek Questions / cleaner/polish
August 08, 2005, 08:28:22 PM
Had a guy drop off his custom knives to be sharpened. He was not happy with the shine of the steel. There a product I've used for 30+ years. It's called Flitz, it's made in West Germany, and it polishes steel and fiberglass.I used it on his knives and he could not believe the shine! It sells for $10.00 and is a tube about the size of the Tormek compound.A very little bit is needed. Any gun nuts out there like me,you won't believe the shine of stainless steel or modern blued barrels, from 1960 and up.(test first) Did my 17 foot boat with 1 tube!Like I say a little bit goes along way.Mix some with the Tormek compound you will be amazed.

General Tormek Questions / cleaning of the tray?
August 06, 2005, 01:48:27 PM
Two questions. Can you dump this stuff down the kitchen sink or will it clog the drain? #2 How do you get rid of this "Newbe" title? I'm 58 and gray, doesn't this qualify?\Thanks,
Ed
