General Tormek Questions / Re:Scraper Blade Sharpening
December 20, 2003, 11:44:25 PM
Hello.  In David Charlesworth's second book (Furniture Making Techniques, Volume Two), he covers such a topic in depth, in the article entitled "Keeping Trim".  I highly recommend both of his books.

Interesting topic.  I am very excited about the skilled use of woodworking hand tools as much as possible, especially using quality tools that do a great job.  However, paradoxically, I am investigating the use of a powered sharpening system for sharpening, and minimizing the use of hand sharpening - be it with waterstones or sandpaper.  I read David Charlesworth's books, and he seems to get benefit from the older Tormek system.

David - any comment?

OK.  With respect to the comment about the different speeds of the Veritas platen (faster speeds at the outside edge), what about flattening the back of blades on the side of the Tormek wheel, and different speeds with this 'platen'?  Anyone else got a comment about the two systems?

Any comment on sharpening curved edges, using their jig and using it freehand?

Anyone done a comparison between the Tormek system and the Veritas Mk.II system?
