On a recent trip to Japan I purchased a Japanese bent gouge for carving. When I tried putting the edge on it, I have been unable to keep the edge square using the SVd-185. One of the problems is getting the tool into the jig. The shank is tapered so I filed a flat spot on to it. It seemed fine but the end results say something is wrong. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for that! For some reason I didn't even think of removing the collar!

Wood Carving / Pfeil Chisels in the svd-185

Hopefully I have that jig number right! Its the one for finger nail gouges or v-tools.

My quesiton has to do with using pfeil chisels in the jig, mine don't seem to fit because the shank is so small. Any suggestions on how I can get around this?
