General Tormek Questions / Prep for LA-120
April 16, 2011, 09:53:59 PM
Do you prep the LA-120 the same way you prep for the Leather Honing wheel? That is, do you impregnate the leather wheels with machine oil and then apply the buffing compound?
Thanks,
Steve

General Tormek Questions / TT-50
April 07, 2011, 10:31:56 PM
What is the purpose of the allen head fitting on the top of the diamond/copper truing device on the TT-50? Is that used just to replace the whole truing stone when it wears down, or is there some other purpose? Doesn't look like it should be adjusted until the diamonds wear out, is that right?

Hand Tool Woodworking / New Plane Iron Sharpening
March 01, 2011, 12:34:56 AM
I just got a Veritas bevel up jointer plane. The iron is sharp, but the back is not lapped, so I know it's not as sharp as it could/should be. I guess what Ionut said is true: no tool out of the box is truly sharp. Looks like a nice unit, however.

Hi all,
Anybody got any tips on building a butcher block counter top? It wants to be hard maple, 1 3/4" thick. It's 38" wide X 6'8" long, turns 90 degrees and is 25" X 106", I have a 6" joiner, 13" planer and a 16/32 drum sander. I'm thinking I straight line the 8/4 boards, cot my pieces out, join one side, and send the other side through the planer. Glue up with Titebond III and clamp with 3 or 4 cauls. Am I missing anything? Thanks,
Steve

General Tormek Questions / Square Grinds with SE-76
February 04, 2011, 01:21:47 AM
I just sharpened a 3/4" chisel in the SE-76, made sure it was perfectly square in the jig, ground it on the 220 and it came out skewed. What did I do wrong? Too much pressure on one side, the jig is out, what? It's a new stone, never been dressed.
