General Tormek Questions / Re: wheel storage
June 11, 2020, 11:39:57 PM
I have always opted to keep the wheels vertically in the wall with a wooden support where I fixed 12 mm threaded pins inclined at 80 ° and stopped with Czech nuts to avoid accidental falls. The dripping of the wet stone is almost negligible and irrelevant. For the leather wheels I have chosen an identical but horizontal positioning.

It could be "the egg of Columbus" excellent idea.
I hope that the most experienced and qualified friends can make their valuable contribution to definitively solve this problem.

General Tormek Questions / Re: TT-50 question
May 13, 2020, 05:33:58 PM
I have never had problems with the edges of the stones.
But since I have sharpened blades with curved parts near the handle and since I saw the video I practice rounding the edges and I feel very comfortable. Losing a few tenths of a millimeter to the right and left I don't think it's a big problem in sharpening.

Yes, the "Pro +" has been unavailable for about three months, while the "Pro" is available. I don't know this type of protractor, but I invite you to carefully evaluate the "Master" the possibility of the magnet for the blade I think it is a great advantage in centering, also the ergonomics for a handle, I think, which is more effective in the "Master ". Obviously personal opinion.
Greetings.

If I understand the question well: the distance, measured with the gauge, from 10 ° to 20 ° is 19 mm

Hello,
I bought the Vetako for a month and I find it of excellent workmanship. I took the "Master" without a case, at the time the briefcase was not available, I hope they can send it to me as soon as possible. Surely the Master is more innovative than the Pro having the magnets to hold the blade steady and a spoke centering device. Certainly very convenient for detections. In my humble only negative opinion is too much sensitivity in the movement of the graduated scale, it is easy to inadvertently deserve it off center. At present it does not have a dedicated manual, a real shame, I had to use that of the Catra and the immeasurable help of JVH to interpret the various signals that laser light can provide you. I highly recommend it. My study continues. I think they do international shipments even if the times are long. I understand that it is a small factory, you should send an email to: info@vetako.cz they respond quickly.
Keep us informed.
Regards

Knife Sharpening / Re: new video from Knife Grinders

I've seen it twice already, very long but very interesting even if obviously I use Italian subtitles. He certainly surpassed himself in this video. It can now be said that he is no longer a sharpener in the more classic term, like most of us, but we are in the university of metal sharpening.

Sorry but another solution could be to use a laser line on the stone. When turning the jig, the blade (in + or -) can be realigned on the laser line using the adjustable handle.

I'm sorry there hasn't been any word on this.  The short of it is that production costs were too high to make it feasible.  Interest was about 40% of the quantity that had the lowest per unit quote price.  Neither Mike or I have the kind of cash to front for it and have hanging out there, even if the return were more attractive.  So, for the foreseeable future, the project is dead.

Rick

Hi Rick
Plese send me some info on this, I might be able to fund this, but I need some more info on price and totalt funds needed.
I love the idea and I think it's sad that it wont be made just because of the lack of funds :)

Best Regards
Jon
Good evening,
any significant NEWS?

Stephen M,

Never lose sight of the wave of water that forms on the edge of the blade

Hi, I am also Italian.
Is your TT-50 the new model or the old one?
If it is the old model try to put two electrician clamps and you should solve the problem,
If it is the new model, ask for explanations at the Tormek assistance center via email, promptly resend, or wait for someone from the community, more experienced, to give you explanations.

Very interesting initiative!
I hope the video is subtitled for non-native English users.

Continued radio silence despite multiple emails and attempted contact via the website.

Certainly doesn't inspire a lot of confidence for a few hundred $$ purchase.
Mine is traveling, I hope to be able to receive it soon.
Yes! actually I noticed that both with the site and with the email communications are very deficient (maybe he has problems interfacing with others)
Try to contact the German friend who put the video on YouTube, it would seem that he has excellent contacts with the owner of the Vetako.

Keep us informed.

Since this too is a "COMMUNITY", in this moment of difficulty for all humanity.
I wish everyone a peaceful continuation of life.
By staying at home, we can commit our time to safeguarding our lives and that of others and devoting ourselves to our sharpening passions.
Be calm. everything will be fine! :-*

"Hi van

I've scanned and attached the Catra laser protractor user instruction leaflet.

The Vertako and Catra protractors have a similar operation so you may find some of the info of use.

Andrew"

Thanks Smurfs,
very helpful.
