Just wondering...

How far do you prefer to seat knives with a spine between .25" & .375" thick in the KJ-45/140?  (I've been trying to do this for a couple weeks and it not working out too well.  I might be sticking them in too far and the stem seem to just push apart and the inside surfaces of the clamps not touch the knive sides well.)

OK, I've been dying ask this... maybe another dumb question from a newbie...

Has anyone other than me intentionally purchase CW-220 composite honing wheel in order do edge-leading stropping, start with that instead of the old "tried and true" wheel, and stuck with edge-leading on the composite wheel  exclusively for their entire Tormek experience so far?

General Tormek Questions / Edge On Up
January 08, 2022, 03:43:57 AM
My call/emails with Mike Brubacher, as a product customer, resulted in some thing to effect of "I know nothing of hard cases. How's that for direct answer?" (quote from memory as cannot currently access original, recent email).

Point is, before I banned due to further complaints... I had been thinking of sharing this with forum, hoping help someone save time/money...

Perfect hard case for Edge Lab and all accessories = Pelican 1485;  (2020 version, still available).  Verified.

Probably perfect hard case for PT50 and all accessories = Pelican 1450 (not sure what year, if matters. Intended verify before posting this, but since message got this evening,  I prolly not here much longer. My brain damage well documented; not joke, wish was.

Mike now knows 1485 the ticket; not mention 1450 to him yet, as not verified. I not mention this on Bess forum, as obviously not need to. But if I did, bet I not get deleted for it.

Hope this helps someone sometime. I sure wish I would have seen this post somewhere.

Have good weekend. I not. Enjoy. And thank you for your help! There may be some new used Tormek stuff on market soon, maybe. If I not here, you'll have look around for it.

General Tormek Questions / Crooked axe jig
January 06, 2022, 01:43:12 PM
Just wanted let everyone know, Tormek replaced my crooked axe jig came in a kit bought with a bundle. Have been very happy bout this as it one of my most frequently used jigs so farand new one work much better. Even came with prepaid label for return of bad one. Thank you, Brian! I know KenS said he debated himself regarding the merits of axe jig for a decade before he bought one, so he probably return it soon after, but if you have one you haven't used yet you may want check it. My guess mine was inserted in press off center when lobes bent. Not off much but did affect when sharpening mezzaluna and axes, especially thin throwing axes.

Newbie here...

1. Do T8s have built in surge protector or not?  Mine unplugged when not in use, but while in use? Don't want zapped from passing storm or whatever.
2. Anyone use ups on these? I usually prefer the circa $60 ones that at 200W plus LED arm magnifier/ light should allow few minutes to complete critical passes and power down properly rather than have die in middle of pass should power fail.

Opinions?

The most I see so far here is somebody with 6 Tormek.  Don't know if they all T8. Regardless, make me think possibly many people have multiple T8. If so, and you do, what distance you prefer have between bases of these, if side by side? Also, what distance you recommend between T8, next each other? I want know this cause seriously considering. (Can't afford dropping wheels or asking someone swap for me so I don't.  Have heard said worst case scenario rarely ever happens, but have survived some of these, so seems a matter of: when, which bones get broken right before, how much replacing that gonna cost me.) Factor... I not have swords, wish I did, hope to, but not foreseeable future; maybe 18 inch max total length currently. If you respond, please indicate your max length and maybe how your recommendation would change if my max length were to increase.  No sick comments needed. Quite serious here.

Knife Sharpening / Mezzaluna / round pizza cutter...
January 02, 2022, 06:58:20 PM
Again, T newbie here... and apologies up front... not want upset anyone/ step on toes... maybe this wrong avenue for these two, if so tell me.

1. First sharpen test on T8 was mezzaluna pizza cutter in axe jig, swinging back and forth while holding against jig make hands cramp. Better way for these/ ulu blades? Way to pivot them?
2. Notice new pizza wheel jig for T2 only. What deal with that? I mean, my wife could come home with new $5 pizza wheel on any given day, but with all stuff I have, should be able sharpen it without accidentally raking it up my arm.  Not buying T2 just for this.   So, 1) Why not one of this for T8, and 2) How do these on T8 with jigs currently available, I guess, before she does spend $5 on new pizza wheel? Again, completely serious here.

Tormek newbie here... not newbie sharpener.   Like on manual guided systems (EP/K03) when you put in half inch stone for recurves... if you want have narrow Tormek stone wheel, how you achieve this? (Aware of radius CBN wheel from KGau... not opposed to in future maybe) What I mean is, take standard stone comes with T, have not measured it but, do you maybe take sharpie and mark the centermost half inch (so not modify this area), then dress in radii (???) with... what, a chunk of concrete, a$200 diamond plate, a ~$60 dressing tip on end of screwdriver looking thing.   I'm being quite serious here. First post, but have searched/ read many your posts trying find answers some questions. Have seen some recurve topics, but can't dance knives on edges of wheels with dexterity issues. Seeking something more like what used to I guess. Seems like T should maybe offer thinner rounded wheel for this but can't find one, so seems possible making one for purpose. Want same radius both sides, so grader seems inaccurate.  Use truing tool only on outer edges, incrementally, both directions... not gonna get identical this way either but I probably get closer match than with grader. First few knives should round rough edge s if make them close enough would think?  What think you about this? Can't afford screw sh>t all up, that for sure. If you aware of tool do this with or alternative products, can include links please?
