Black booga's appearing on stone?!

Hey guys,
My first post here, ive had a T7 for a couple of weeks and its going well!
I was in the workshop today sharpening up some flat chisels and noticed little black "bits" stuck on the stone and floating about in the water.
They are .5 -1mm in sized and are not unlike rubbery booga's... for the life of me i can't figure out where its coming from....

I replaced the water and picked them off the wheel but an hour later they were back...

Any ideas?

Two possible sources.  One is normal detritus coming off the leather honing wheel.  It's steel and honing compound, for the most part.  The other possibility is rubber off the brand new drive wheel.
