Hello,

I have a brand new Tormek T-8. After about one hour of use, it suddenly stops. The motor is completely dead and makes no sound at all. After approximately five minutes, it starts working again by itself.

The motor housing is only slightly warm, not hot, and the grinding wheel turns freely by hand when the machine has stopped.

I have sharpened around 20–30 knives and have probably used fairly heavy pressure while grinding.

Is this normal behavior, or could there be a fault with the machine?

Thank you.

Contact support and ask them. They will sort it out.

Not something that should be happening.
Sharpen the knife blade
Hone edge until perfection
Cut with joy and ease

I haven't received a response from Tormek Support yet. I'll wait a couple more days before following up, as it may be due to the holiday season.

But I'll keep you updated if anything happens.

Dan

This is definitely not normal. My T8 is very happy to run and run  ;)
A bit of patience at this holiday time is a good idea, it is not a massive company so there are probably a few people absent at the moment which will slow down their response but I am sure Tormek will try to get this sorted for you as soon as they are able to.
