Why so quiet?

Don't think I've seen the forum go this many days without posts.  Nobody sharpening?

Dutchman

Everything is clear, no more problems. New developments are still pending. ;)

Interesting topic. I am not aware of any new pending developments. However; last night I was thinking about some conversation topics I have been wanting to post. This slow period might be the best time to do so. Give me a day or so. Stay tuned.

Perhaps it is the waning days of Summer. Everyone is trying to squeeze in activities before the weather changes. Additionally it is a holiday weekend in the US and many take extra vacation days to make it longer.
Sharpen the knife blade
Hone edge until perfection
Cut with joy and ease

Why so quiet? I don't have the answer, although some possibilities come to mind.

We now have a greater variety of learning methods. Our old stalwart, the handbook, is still a contender. Mine is much read and underlined. When I purchased my first Tormek in 2009, the two outstanding sources of youtubes were Jeff Farris and Alan Holtham. These two sources are as good as ever, although, I believe they have been largely eclipsed by Tormek's online classes.

There are also few stones left unturned : compared to a few years ago, many improvements have been made.

Tormek now sells a FVB, the KS-123 solves the issues of the infamous AngleMaster when  sharpening knives, the pros and cons of each machine are well documented...

As for usage tips, any new Tormek user willing to lookup rich's Handbook or to spend some time searching the forum will find a trove of things to try to find their best match.

I guess we just have to wait for a new innovation by Tormek or the next controversial post to rekindle the fire of posting...

There is plenty of room on the forum for new ideas. Dutchman saw an opportunity for making bevel angles and posted his grinding angles tables. Herman designed his homemade small platform. Every serious knife sharpener should have one.

Let's  keep the good ideas coming!

I have an abrasive tutorial I am working on and am planning a You Tube video to accompany it. I have already done a lot of prep. here is the link.

It is public so you should not need an account to see it.

I retired just over a month ago but I broke my wrist three weeks ago which cramped my style but that gives me time now to prep for the video.

John, sorry to hear about your wrist. I hope you get well soon.

Thanks for the document, it is very clear and informative. I'm waiting for your video !
