Sorry for the painful picture but this happened after a tool that was suspended above my Tormek accidently fell down. I had this stone for about 6 months only and now there is this big chip thanks to my own fault. Only options I can think of is to true away the entire outer damaged part with the TT50, or buy new.

Who has other ideas?

TBH I would not worry. Just use it as normal - it should be fine. Obviously you cannot use the corners or upper part of the face but sharpening normally should be fine.

True it enough to clean up to outer surface and chamfer/radius the corners, putting a larger radius on the chipped side and use it.

I suffered what I thought was a fatal accidental fall of my SJ-250 when the table it was on collapsed at a farmers market in 2018.  I posted about it here then.  I've been using it ever since with not one single issue due to the cracks and chips.

Here it is three years after

With a little bit of time, the acetone evaporated and the cracks closed back up and are barely discernible now.  I don't even think about the fact that it was once cracked and chipped what appeared beyond repair or continued use.

Quality is like buying oats.  If you want nice, clean, fresh oats, you must pay a fair price. However, if you can be satisfied with oats that have already been through the horse, that comes at a lower price.

It might be unnecessary, but I would also smooth the concavity with a dremel on low speed to make sure it won't catch and chip again.

As John and Rick said, the stone will work just fine.

Thanks all, I was pretty upset when I discovered it but I will follow the advice given. After all, what have I got to lose?
