I have a Tormek, And I have not used it much. Just never got around to it. Anyway I'm going to learn. Starting now. And my first question is, on sharpening plane blades, which direction does the wheel go. On the pdf square edge jig se-76 it shows the grinding direction towards the edge. And honing away from the edge. Does it matter which way. Thanks Hat

As a rule of thumb, relatively straight edges (like plane irons and chisels) are best done in the vertical mount with the wheel turning into the edge.  Shaped edges (gouges, for example) are best done in the horizontal mount, with the wheel turning away from the edge.

Honing is always done with the wheel turning away from the edge.
