New T-7 Honing Wheel Skipping?

Mine had a bit of a bump in it too when I first started using it. After oiling the leather and honing a few things on it the bump is almost unnoticeable. No sanding. Just my experience. YMMV.

My honing wheel has settled down without too much of a bothersome bump. But I did need some effort of sanding the join. As has been said, in the sequence of shaping, sharpening and polishing (honing) it is best to finish sharpening with the grinding wheel at its finest grit.

Yes.  There's a huge difference between a smooth grindstone and the honing compound.  At 40X I see the scratches left from the grindstone.  Honing polishes and shines the flat spots between the scratches.  I would love to try the Japanese Waterstone sometime to see if it fills the gap.
