Should the SJ-250 stone (Japanese water stone) ever be trued using the TT-50, and if so, what is the recommended procedure?. It seems to be very soft and fine grained to me for such harsh cutting. Thx.

I would only do it if I found the stone to be either significantly out of round or significantly out of parallel with the Universal Support. Use a very slow feed rate across the stone, then follow up with the smooth side of the stone grader to smooth out the surface.

i find a diamond bench stone useful for cleaning the surface of the japanese 4k stone. Little and often, i also relieve the corners of the edge of the stone lightly. If it's a long way out of true i'd use the diamond truing tool but take it very slowly and lightly
